Privacy Policy
Effective [DATE]
UpTick Hosting, [ADDRESS], operates Uptick Host. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
1. What we collect
Account information. Name, email address, billing country, and — where required for tax or fraud checks — billing address. You provide this at signup.
Payment information. We do not see or store your card number. Payments are handled by our payment processor, which receives your card details directly. We receive only a token, the last four digits, the card brand, and the result.
Technical and usage data. IP addresses used to access the panel, login timestamps, support ticket contents, server resource usage, and panel action logs. We need these to operate the service, investigate abuse, and defend against fraud and chargebacks.
Your server content. Worlds, configurations, plugins, and files you upload. We do not inspect these except where we must to investigate a specific abuse report or comply with legal process.
We do not use tracking cookies for advertising, sell your data, or share it with advertisers. Our website uses privacy-respecting analytics that do not set identifying cookies.
2. Why we process it, and on what basis
| Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Providing the service you bought | Performance of a contract |
| Billing and tax records | Contract; legal obligation |
| Fraud and chargeback prevention | Legitimate interests |
| Abuse investigation and network security | Legitimate interests; legal obligation |
| Service and outage notifications | Contract |
| Responding to legal process | Legal obligation |
We do not send marketing email unless you separately opt in, and you can withdraw that at any time.
3. Who we share it with
We use these subprocessors. This list is kept current, and we will update it here before adding anyone new.
| Subprocessor | Purpose | Data |
|---|---|---|
| Our bare-metal infrastructure provider (Detroit) | Hosting your server | Server content, IP addresses |
| Stripe | Payment processing | Name, email, billing country, card data (direct to them) |
| Our transactional email provider | Service emails, invoices | Name, email |
| Our off-site backup provider | Encrypted backup storage | Encrypted server content |
| Our support desk software | Ticket handling | Name, email, ticket contents |
| Our analytics provider | Website statistics | Aggregated, non-identifying |
We also disclose data where required by valid legal process, or where there is a genuine and immediate risk to life or safety. We require valid process — we do not hand over customer data on request alone.
4. How long we keep it
- Account and billing records: 7 years after your last invoice, for tax and accounting purposes.
- Server content: 7 days after service ends, then deleted; purged from off-site backups within 30 days.
- Support tickets: 3 years.
- Panel and access logs: 12 months.
- Abuse investigation records: 3 years, because we may need to evidence our handling.
5. Where your data is held
Our servers are in the United States. If you are in the UK, EU, or another region with data transfer rules, your data will be transferred to and processed in the US. We rely on Standard Contractual Clauses with our subprocessors where required.
6. Your rights
Whatever your location, you may ask us to:
- give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- correct anything inaccurate;
- delete your data (subject to records we must keep for tax and abuse purposes);
- export your data in a portable format;
- stop processing for a specific purpose, where you have that right.
Email support@uptick.host. We will respond within 30 days and we will not charge you or make it difficult. If you are in the EU or UK and unhappy with our response, you may complain to your local data protection authority.
California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA, and we do not discriminate against anyone who exercises their rights.
7. Children
You must be 18 to hold an account. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe we have, email support@uptick.host and we will delete it and close the account.
8. Security
Card data never touches our servers. Administrative access requires multi-factor authentication. Off-site backups are encrypted with keys we hold. Access to customer data is limited to what is needed to operate the service, and it is logged.
If we suffer a data breach affecting your personal data, we will tell you. We will notify affected customers and, where required, the relevant supervisory authority within 72 hours of becoming aware.
9. Changes
We'll post changes here and update the effective date. If a change materially affects how we handle your data, we'll email you first.
10. Our free community servers
The five "UpTick"-branded Rust servers run on the same infrastructure as the hosting service but aren't it — nobody pays for them, and joining one doesn't create an account with us. The people affected are players, not customers, and the data is different in kind, so this is covered separately rather than folded into §1–3 above.
What we collect. Joining a community server exposes your Steam ID, in-game name, and IP address to the server, as it would on any Rust server. We also run GameServerTools, a third-party plugin, which additionally sends your Steam ID, chat messages, session activity, and combat/aim telemetry to its operator for anti-cheat and moderation.
Who we share it with
| Subprocessor | Purpose | Data |
|---|---|---|
| GameServerTools (gameservertools.com) | Anti-cheat detection, moderation tooling | Steam ID, chat messages, session activity, combat and aim telemetry |
Why. Legitimate interest in running servers where cheating gets caught — the same reason any moderated Rust server runs anti-cheat tooling.
Your rights. §6 above is written for account-holding customers and doesn't map cleanly onto a Steam ID joining a public server. If you want to know what GameServerTools holds against your Steam ID, or want it deleted, email support@uptick.host and we'll relay the request — we don't control their retention directly, which is itself worth asking the lawyer about (see the review list below).
