Refund and Cancellation Policy
Effective [DATE]
This is the policy that most clearly reflects how we think a host should behave. It is short, and there are no traps in it.
1. Cancel any time
Cancel from the control panel whenever you like. There is:
- no contract term
- no minimum period
- no notice period to observe
- no cancellation window you can miss
- no cancellation fee
Cancellation takes effect immediately if you ask for that, or at the end of your current billing period if you'd rather keep using it. Your choice, at the point of cancelling.
2. New customer refund — 72 hours, no questions
If you're within 72 hours of your first payment on a new server and it isn't right for you, tell us and we'll refund the full amount. You don't have to explain why.
3. After that — pro-rated refund of unused time
Cancel at any point and we'll refund the unused whole days remaining in your current billing period, back to your original payment method.
If you cancel on day 8 of a 30-day period, you get 22 days back. That's it — no restocking fee, no administrative charge, no "credits only."
Prepaid multi-month terms — for example an annual founding-offer prepay — work differently. Refund = amount you paid, minus (whole months used × the standard monthly rate for your plan). The bundled free months are the value forfeited first on an early cancellation, not spread proportionally across the term. That is the tradeoff for the discount, and we would rather say so here than leave it implicit. Sections 5 and 6 below are not affected by this: if we terminate for our convenience or shut down, you get all unused value back regardless of term length, because those aren't your fault.
4. The honest exceptions
Three, and they're all narrow:
- Accounts terminated for a serious Acceptable Use Policy breach are not refunded. If you were using the service to attack someone or host illegal material, you don't get your money back.
- One-time promotional discounts are not refunded as cash. If you received 50% off a first month, a pro-rated refund is calculated on what you actually paid, not on list price.
- We reserve the right to decline a refund where there's clear evidence the policy is being abused — for example, repeatedly ordering and cancelling to obtain free service. We have never needed to use this and we'd rather not.
5. If we terminate for convenience
If we decide to stop offering service to you for a reason that isn't your fault, we'll give you 30 days' notice and refund all unused prepaid time, plus help you migrate elsewhere.
6. If we shut down
If we ever wind down the business, you'll get at least 60 days' notice, a full refund of unused time, and help exporting your data. Saying this in advance is easy; being held to it is the point.
7. Chargebacks — please talk to us first
If something's wrong with a charge, email support@uptick.host. We'll fix genuine billing errors immediately and without argument.
Filing a chargeback instead costs us a fee and gets your account suspended while it's investigated — for something we'd almost certainly have just refunded. Given the policy above, there is very little a chargeback can achieve that an email cannot.
8. How to get a refund
Email support@uptick.host or use the panel. Refunds are processed within 5 business days and typically appear in 5–10 business days depending on your bank.
